Overview

Dunkerque in brief

USL Dunkerque trace their roots to Stade Dunkerquois, founded on 1 May 1909 with the help of Marcel Tribut, who had discovered football on a trip to Scotland. In 1919 Stade Dunkerquois merged with US Malo-les-Bains, and after several more mergers and name changes the club became Union Sportive du Littoral de Dunkerque. They play in blue and white and are known as Les Maritimes. Their home is the Stade Marcel-Tribut, rebuilt from 2018 and inaugurated in its new form in January 2022.

Dunkerque turned professional in 1935 and spent four seasons in Division 2 before the war, then thirty consecutive seasons there from 1966 to 1996, with a best finish of third in 1979. After falling as low as the fifth tier, they were crowned CFA champions in 2013, returned to Ligue 2 in 2020 and, after relegation in 2022, came straight back in 2023. In 2024-25 they finished fourth in Ligue 2 and lost a promotion play-off to Metz.
