Overview

NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in brief

NK Lokomotiva Zagreb, usually called simply Lokomotiva, are a football club from Zagreb with their headquarters and training complex at Kajzerica in Novi Zagreb. The club was founded in 1914 as a railway workers' sports club, Zeljeznicarski sportski klub Victoria, played between the wars as Zeljeznicar and has carried the name Lokomotiva, Croatian for locomotive, since 1945. The team are nicknamed the Lokosi. Because their own ground at Kajzerica is not suitable for top-flight football, Lokomotiva play their home matches at Stadion Maksimir, where they moved in spring 2025 when Stadion Kranjceviceva, their home for several seasons, closed for reconstruction.

Lokomotiva's first strong era came after the Second World War, when they played in the Yugoslav First League for most of the period from 1946 to 1957 and finished third in 1952, behind Hajduk Split and Red Star Belgrade. They won the Yugoslav Second League in 1956, were relegated from the top flight in 1957 and spent most of the next five decades in the lower leagues. After becoming a Dinamo Zagreb feeder club in 2006, they won three successive promotions and returned to the top flight in 2009. The club has not won a major trophy, but finished as league and Croatian Football Cup runners-up in both 2013 and 2020. In Europe they reached the Europa League play-off round in 2016-17.
