Overview

SønderjyskE in brief

Sonderjyske's roots go back to Haderslev Fodboldklub (Haderslev FK), founded on 14 July 1906 in Haderslev, which was then part of the German Empire. The club had both Danish and German members, and in its early years they disagreed over whether it should use the Danish name or the German "Haderslebener Fussball Club". The team played at barracks grounds until its first proper pitch was built in 1930. Renamed HFK Sonderjylland in 2001, the club became SonderjyskE in 2004 and has been Sonderjyske Fodbold since October 2022. It plays at the stadium on Stadionvej, called Sydbank Park from December 2013 and AL Sydbank Park since April 2026.

In 2000 it became the first team from Southern Jutland to reach the Superliga, but went straight back down. It won the 1st Division in 2004-05 and again lasted one season. After returning in 2008 it stayed up for the first time, then finished second in 2015-16. On its first trip into Europe, in 2016-17, it beat Stromsgodset and Zaglebie Lubin before losing to Sparta Prague. It won the Danish Cup in 2020, beating AaB 2-0, lost the 2021 final 4-0 to Randers, was relegated in 2022 and won the 1st Division again in 2023-24.
