Overview

TSV Hartberg in brief

TSV Hartberg (Turn- und Sportverein Hartberg) was founded on 29 April 1946 in Hartberg, eastern Styria, by a group of local men and women as a politically independent multi-sport club. The football team played its first league match in 1949 and spent decades in the Styrian regional leagues. The blue and white club colours come from the old coat of arms of the town. Home games are played at Stadion Hartberg, known as the Profertil Arena Hartberg since 2014, which was rebuilt in 2018 and renovated again in 2025.

Hartberg became known as a cup side, reaching the Austrian Cup quarter-finals in 1988-89 as a fourth-tier club and the semi-finals in 1994-95 and 2011-12. It won the Regionalliga Mitte five times between 1996 and 2017. After finishing second in the 2017-18 second division, the club won a licence appeal and joined the Bundesliga for the first time in 2018. Fifth place in 2019-20 and a play-off win over Austria Vienna led to a first European tie, a 3-2 defeat at Piast Gliwice. In 2025 Hartberg reached its first Austrian Cup final, losing 1-0 to Wolfsberger AC.
