Overview

Santos in brief

Santos were founded on 14 April 1912 at a meeting in the Clube Concordia in the port city of Santos, called by three local sportsmen. The team play in white, the club colours are black and white, and the nickname is Peixe, the Fish. Home is Vila Belmiro, officially the Estadio Urbano Caldeira, which opened on 12 October 1916; the first match there, ten days later, was a 2-1 win over Ypiranga.

With Pele, Santos won five straight Taca Brasil titles from 1961 to 1965 and the 1968 Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, all counted by the CBF as Brazilian championships, plus the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in both 1962 and 1963, beating Benfica and then Milan. Later came league titles in 2002 and 2004, a Copa do Brasil in 2010 and a third Libertadores in 2011. In 2023 Santos were relegated for the first time, and they won Serie B in 2024 to return.
