Overview

Corinthians in brief

Corinthians were founded on 1 September 1910 in Sao Paulo by five workers from the Bom Retiro neighbourhood, inspired by the touring English amateur side Corinthian FC of London, whose name they borrowed. The first shirts were cream, which faded to white, and black and white have been the colours ever since. After decades at the shared Pacaembu and the small Parque Sao Jorge ground, the club moved in 2014 to its own stadium in Itaquera, named Neo Quimica Arena since 2020, which staged the 2014 World Cup opening match.

Corinthians have won seven Brasileirao titles (1990, 1998, 1999, 2005, 2011, 2015 and 2017) and four Copas do Brasil, the latest in 2025 with a 2-1 aggregate win over Vasco da Gama in the final. In 2012 they won the Copa Libertadores unbeaten, beating Boca Juniors in the final, and then beat Chelsea to win the FIFA Club World Cup, a title they had first won in 2000. They also won the 2013 Recopa and two Supercopas do Brasil, the second with a 2-0 win over Flamengo in February 2026.
