Overview

West Ham in brief

West Ham United were founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks, the works team of what was then the largest shipbuilder on the Thames, and were relaunched under their present name in 1900. The East London club are known as the Hammers and the Irons, nicknames echoed by the crossed rivet hammers on the badge. West Ham play in claret and sky blue at the London Stadium in Stratford, their home since leaving the Boleyn Ground in 2016.

West Ham have won the FA Cup three times, in 1964, 1975 and 1980, and added the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965. In 2023 they won the UEFA Conference League, beating Fiorentina 2-1 in the final. The club also won the 1999 Intertoto Cup, shared the 1964 Charity Shield and were second-tier champions in 1957-58 and 1980-81, while their best top-flight finish is third place in 1985-86.
