Overview

Torino in brief

Founded in 1906, Torino are based in Turin and wear the maroon shirts that have become one of Italian football's most recognisable identities. Known as Il Toro, or the Bull, the club draws its symbol from Turin's civic emblem. Torino play at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, whose name commemorates the celebrated side lost in the Superga air disaster of 1949.

Torino have won seven Italian championships and five Coppa Italia trophies. Their defining era belonged to Grande Torino, who won five consecutive league titles during the 1940s with an adventurous, technically accomplished team built around captain Valentino Mazzola. The 1975-76 side, led by the goals of Paolo Pulici and Francesco Graziani, delivered another championship and remains the reference point for the club's post-war generations.
