Overview
Serie A in brief
Serie A is the top division of Italian football, played as a national round-robin championship since 1929 after roots that reach back to 1898. Twenty clubs play 38 matchdays, with the bottom three relegated to Serie B and the leading teams entering UEFA competitions.
Juventus are Italy's record champions, while Inter Milan and AC Milan share both the San Siro and the Derby della Madonnina. Serie A's identity is built on tactical detail, title races for the scudetto and historic clubs from Turin, Milan, Rome, Naples, Florence and beyond.
The 2026/27 season starts on 22 August 2026 and runs until 30 May 2027.
Inter are the reigning champions, having won the 2025/26 title. Lautaro Martínez finished as the season's top scorer with 17 goals.
