Overview

Toulouse in brief

Founded in 1970 as Union Sportive Toulouse, the modern club adopted the Toulouse Football Club name in 1979. They are known as Les Violets for their purple colours, which echo Toulouse's association with the violet flower. Their home is the Stadium de Toulouse, an island ground on the River Garonne that opened in 1937 and has hosted major international football and rugby tournaments.

Toulouse won the second division in 1982, 2003 and 2022. Their first major cup arrived in 2023, when they defeated Nantes to win the Coupe de France. Earlier landmarks included eliminating Diego Maradona's Napoli from the UEFA Cup in 1986 and rebuilding from the third tier after financial collapse in 2001. These recoveries established resilience and youth development as lasting parts of the club's character.
