Overview

Brann in brief

Brann are the principal football club of Bergen, Norway's second-largest city. The club was founded on 26 September 1908, when Christen K. Gran and nine other young men met at a cafe in the city and formed Ski- og Fodboldklubben Brann; the name, suggested by Birger Gjestland, means fire. Sections for skiing and athletics were later closed, and the club has been devoted solely to football since 1987. Brann play in red and are nicknamed Bergens Stolthet, the Pride of Bergen. Their home since 25 May 1919 has been Brann Stadion, known locally simply as Stadion.

Brann have won three Norwegian league titles and seven Norwegian Football Cups. With Roald Jensen and Rolf Birger Pedersen they won the 1961-62 marathon league and the 1963 title, and a third championship followed in 2007 after a 44-year wait. The cup was won in 1923, 1925, 1972, 1976, 1982, 2004 and 2022, and Brann were runners-up in the 2025-26 edition, losing the 9 May 2026 final to Bodo/Glimt on penalties after extra time. In Europe they reached the 1996-97 Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals, beating PSV Eindhoven before losing to Liverpool, and the UEFA Cup round of 32 in 2007-08. In 2025-26 they played in the Europa League league phase for the first time, going out 2-0 on aggregate to Bologna in the knockout phase play-offs.
