Overview
Bodo/Glimt in brief
Bodo/Glimt are a football club from the town of Bodo in Nordland county, northern Norway. The club was founded on 19 September 1916 as Fotballklubben Glimt, 'glimt' meaning gleam, when Bodo had no major football club of its own; one of the founders, Erling Tjaerandsen, became its first president. In 1948 the name was changed to Bodo-Glimt, later written Bodo/Glimt, because an older club in Trondelag had the same name. The team play in yellow and are known as Glimt and Superlaget (the Super Team). Since 1966 their home has been Aspmyra Stadion in Bodo, a seated ground of 8,270 with an artificial pitch.
Northern clubs were barred from the Norwegian Football Cup until 1963, and Glimt's early honours were nine Northern Norwegian Cup wins between 1930 and 1969. In 1975, as a second-tier side, they became the first northern club to win the Norwegian Cup; they won it again in 1993 and in May 2026, beating Brann on penalties after extra time at Ullevaal. After second-tier titles in 2013 and 2017, Glimt won Eliteserien in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024. In Europe they reached the Conference League quarter-finals in 2022, the Europa League semi-finals in 2025 and, in their first Champions League league phase, the 2026 round of 16.

Glimt's main rivalry is with Tromso IL, a fixture known as Slaget om Nord-Norge, the Battle of Northern Norway, which sets the two largest cities in the north against each other. In the mid-1980s, when Glimt dropped to the third tier, town rivals Grand Bodo were for a time the stronger side. Trond Sollied coached the team that won the 1992 First Division, and Kent Bergersen and Erik Hoftun coached the side that beat Odd in the 2007 promotion play-off. Former Glimt player Aasmund Bjorkan coached the 2017 promotion campaign, and Philip Zinckernagel was named player of the year in the 2020 title season.
