Overview

Wisla Plock in brief

Wisla Plock are the football club of Plock, an industrial city on the Vistula in central Poland. The club was founded in 1947 as Elektrycznosc Plock and, after spells as Ogniwo and Sparta, took the name Wisla, the Polish name for the Vistula, in 1955. Ties to the local refinery, which became the club's patron in 1963, later brought the names Petrochemia, Petro and Orlen Plock before the club became Wisla again in 2002. The team wear blue and white and are nicknamed Nafciarze, the Oilers. Their home is the Kazimierz Gorski Stadium, known as Orlen Stadion for sponsorship reasons since 2023 and rebuilt to hold 15,004.

Wisla played only regional football until the early 1960s and first reached the Ekstraklasa in the mid-1990s as Petrochemia Plock. Their best years came in the 2000s: they reached the Polish Cup final in 2003, finished fourth in the Ekstraklasa in 2005, their highest league placing, and won the Polish Cup in 2006, the club's first major trophy. In July 2006 they added the Polish Super Cup, beating league champions Legia Warszawa 2-1 in Warsaw. After nine years away, the club returned to the top flight in 2016 and stayed until 2023. They came back in 2025 by beating Miedz Legnica 2-0 in the promotion play-off final.
