Overview

Zbrojovka Brno in brief

Zbrojovka Brno was founded on 14 January 1913 as SK Zidenice by Cyril Lacina, a miller's son, in the Brno suburb of Zidenice. The nearby Zbrojovka arms factory became its sponsor in the 1920s, and after the Second World War the club took the Zbrojovka name. It merged with Ruda Hvezda Brno in 1962, and between 1992 and 2010 it played under names including Boby Brno and 1. FC Brno. The club colours are red, white and blue. Since 2001 the club has played at the municipal stadium on Srbska street in Kralovo Pole. The stadium has been called ShipEx Arena since 2025 and is shared with Artis Brno.

As SK Zidenice, the club became the first Moravian side in the Czechoslovak top flight in 1933-34 and reached the Mitropa Cup quarter-finals in 1935. Its best era came under coach Josef Masopust: the Czechoslovak title in 1977-78 and second place in 1979-80. Brno went out of the 1978-79 European Cup in the second round without losing a match, and reached the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 1979-80. After relegations in 1983 and 1991, it spent 19 straight seasons in the top flight from 1992 to 2011 and finished third in 1994-95. Since then it has moved between the top two divisions, winning the second tier in 2021-22 and 2025-26.
