Overview
Fortuna Sittard in brief
Fortuna Sittard were founded on 1 July 1968 through the merger of Fortuna '54 from Geleen and Sittardia from Sittard, neighbouring towns in the province of Limburg that now form the municipality of Sittard-Geleen. The yellow-and-green club have played at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion since November 1999; the ground, which took its current name in 2014, holds just over 12,000 supporters.
Fortuna Sittard won the second-tier Eerste Divisie in 1994-95 and were a regular Eredivisie side during the 1990s, reaching KNVB Cup finals in 1984 and 1999. Both predecessor clubs brought their own history to the merger: Fortuna '54 won the KNVB Cup in 1957 and 1964, while Sittardia were second-tier champions in 1958-59, 1963-64 and 1965-66.
