Overview

Rizespor in brief

Founded on 19 May 1953, Caykur Rizespor are the professional football club of Rize, the tea-growing city on Turkey's eastern Black Sea coast. The club play in green and blue, colours adopted after a 1968 merger with local sides: green for the region's natural landscape and blue for the Black Sea. Home matches are played at the Caykur Didi Stadium, also known as Rize City Stadium, which opened in August 2009 beside the coast road and replaced the old Rize Ataturk Stadium.

Rizespor's senior honours are three second-tier titles, won in 1978-79, 1984-85 and 2017-18, and the 1993-94 third-tier championship. The first of those brought top-flight football to Rize for the 1979-80 season, and the club have spent much of their history moving between the top two divisions. They have reached the Turkish Cup semi-finals in 2002-03, 2007-08 and 2015-16.
