Overview

Lausanne-Sport in brief

Lausanne-Sport was founded in Lausanne in autumn 1896 as Montriond Football Club by seven local teenagers, with Maurice Ramelet as its first president. It became Montriond-Sports in 1905 and, after a merger with the Club Hygienique de Lausanne in 1920, the football section of the multi-sport club Lausanne-Sports. That club went bankrupt in 2003 and was reformed the same year as FC Lausanne-Sport, restarting in the fourth tier. From 1954 the team played at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise, built for that year's World Cup. Its home since November 2020 has been the Stade de la Tuiliere.

Lausanne were Swiss champions seven times between 1913 and 1965 and have won the Swiss Cup nine times, most recently in 1998 and 1999. They won the league and cup double in 1935 and 1944. Under coach Karl Rappan, the 1964-65 side, called the "Lords of the Night" for their evening wins under the new Pontaise floodlights, led the league from first matchday to last and reached the Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals. Money problems brought relegation in 2002 and bankruptcy in 2003, after which the club restarted in the fourth tier. Since 2005 it has moved between the top two tiers, and it reached the knockout play-offs of the 2025-26 Conference League.
