Overview

Sigma Olomouc in brief

Sigma Olomouc was founded in late summer 1919 as FK Hejcin Olomouc, an amateur team formed by boys from the Olomouc suburb of Hejcin and led by Karel Taticek, its founder and first chairman. It became SK Hejcin in 1920 and spent about its first 50 years in the lower leagues. Later names reflected sponsors: the Moravian ironworks and, from 1966, the Sigma company, whose blue and white replaced the original black and white. The club, nicknamed Hanaci, plays at Andruv stadion, opened in 1940 and named after football patron Josef Ander.

Sigma first reached the Czechoslovak First League in 1982, went straight back down, and returned in 1984 for 30 unbroken years in the top flight. Its best league finish is second, in 1995-96, and it reached the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 1991-92, losing to Real Madrid. The club won the Czech Cup and the Czech Supercup in 2012. It was relegated in 2014 and 2016, winning the second tier the following season each time. In 2025 it beat Sparta Prague 3-1 in the Czech Cup final, then reached the round of 16 of the 2025-26 Conference League, losing 2-0 on aggregate to Mainz.
