Overview

BSC Young Boys in brief

Young Boys were founded in Bern on 14 March 1898 as FC Young Boys by the brothers Max and Oskar Schwab with Hermann Bauer and Franz Kehrli, students impressed by Basel side Old Boys, whose name they echoed. They chose yellow and black as the club colours. The club became Berner Sport Club Young Boys, or YB, in 1925, when it opened the Wankdorf Stadium. After a spell at Neufeld from 2001, YB moved into the rebuilt ground in 2005; it was called Stade de Suisse until 2020 and has been Stadion Wankdorf since.

YB won their first Swiss title in 1902-03, and their titles of 1909, 1910 and 1911 were the first championship hat trick in Swiss football. Under coach Albert Sing they won four titles in a row from 1957 to 1960 and reached the 1958-59 European Cup semi-finals, beating Stade de Reims 1-0 in Bern before losing 3-0 in Paris. YB were relegated in 1947 and 1997. The 2017-18 title ended a 32-year wait and began a run of four in a row, with doubles in 2020 and 2023 and a 17th title in 2024.
