Kortrijk

KV Kortrijk are the professional football club of Kortrijk in West Flanders. They carry matricule number 19, which traces back to Sporting Club Courtraisien, founded in 1901, while the present club was formed in 1971 when Kortrijk Sport merged with Stade Kortrijk. Known as De Kerels, Kortrijk play in red and white, the colours of the city's coat of arms, at the Guldensporenstadion, named after the Battle of the Golden Spurs fought at Kortrijk in 1302.

SC Courtraisien reached the top division in 1906 and stayed until 1911, but the club spent much of the following decades in the lower national tiers, winning third-division series as Courtrai Sports in 1927 and 1943. KV Kortrijk had top-flight spells between 1976 and 1992 and again in 1998-99, then won the second division in 2008 and began a 17-season run in the top flight. In that period they finished fourth in the 2009-10 regular season, the club's best modern league showing, and reached the 2012 Belgian Cup final.
