Overview

Nordsjælland in brief

FC Nordsjaelland was founded on 1 January 1991 as Farum Boldklub (Farum BK), a merger of two clubs from the town of Farum: Farum IK, formed in 1910, and Stavnsholt BK. The town's mayor, Peter Brixtofte, was among those behind the new club, and its kit combined the colours of both. After a scandal over municipal money that Brixtofte had steered towards the club, it was sold in 2003 and renamed after the North Zealand region. Home games are played at Right to Dream Park, which opened in 1999 as Farum Park and took its current name in 2016.

Farum BK rose from the fourth-tier Denmark Series and won promotion to the Superliga as 1st Division runners-up in 2001-02. The club finished third in its first top-flight season. As FC Nordsjaelland it won the Danish Cup in 2010 and 2011, beating Midtjylland in both finals. In 2011-12 it won its first Superliga title, sealed with a 3-0 win over AC Horsens on the last day. In the 2012-13 Champions League group stage it played Chelsea, Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk, taking one point from a 1-1 draw with Juventus at Parken. It was Superliga runner-up in 2012-13 and 2022-23.
