Overview

Bohemians 1905 in brief

Bohemians 1905 grew out of SK Kotva, a sports circle in Vrsovice, then a village just outside Prague. On 16 December 1905 it joined the new Czech football association under the name AFK Vrsovice, with green and white already its colours. In 1927 the team toured Australia as Bohemians, kept that name and put a kangaroo on its badge, which gave the club its nickname Klokani (Kangaroos). Since 1932 it has played at the Dolicek in Vrsovice, opened as the Danner Stadium after chairman Zdenek Danner and now officially Mestsky stadion Dolicek; the only break was two seasons at Slavia's stadium in 2010-12.

Bohemians played in the national top flight from 1925 to 1935, then spent decades moving between the first and second divisions. Settled in the top flight from 1973, they won the Czechoslovak title in 1982-83, their only league championship, and reached that season's UEFA Cup semi-finals, losing to Anderlecht. They also won the Czech section of the cup in 1982. Relegated in 1995, the club went bankrupt in 2005 and restarted in the third tier with help from its fans. After relegations in 2008 and 2012 it returned a year later each time.
