Overview

Venezia in brief

Venezia were founded in 1907 by members of the football sections of two Venetian sports clubs, Marziale and Reyer. Their nickname, Gli Arancioneroverdi, means the Orange, Black and Greens: orange joined the original black and green following the 1987 merger with mainland club Mestre. Home is the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on the island of Sant'Elena, close to the Biennale, giving the club a distinctive lagoon setting.

The partnership of Ezio Loik and Valentino Mazzola helped Venezia win the Coppa Italia in 1941, their only victory in the competition. A draw away to Roma was followed by a home win in the two-legged final, with Loik scoring the decisive goal. Third place in Serie A followed in 1942. Venezia also won Serie B in 1961, 1966 and 2026, the last bringing an immediate return after relegation.
