Overview

St Mirren in brief

St Mirren were founded in Paisley in 1877, when members of a local gentlemen's sports club that also played cricket and rugby took up association football. The club is named after Saint Mirin, the patron saint of Paisley. The first strip was scarlet and blue, but black and white stripes followed after one season. St Mirren were founder members of the Scottish Football League in 1890 and played at Love Street from 1894 to 2009. Their current home, St Mirren Park on Greenhill Road, opened in January 2009 and has been called the Marbill Coaches Stadium since July 2026.

St Mirren have won the Scottish Cup three times, in 1926, 1959 and 1987, when Ian Ferguson's extra-time goal beat Dundee United 1-0 at Hampden. They won the Scottish League Cup in 2013, beating Hearts 3-2, and again in December 2025, beating Celtic 3-1. They have never won the top flight; their joint-best finish is third, reached in 1979-80, when they also won the Anglo-Scottish Cup. Relegations in 1992, 2001 and 2015 were each followed by a second-tier title, the latest in 2017-18. Their fifth European campaign came in the 2024-25 Conference League.
