International Friendlies
Overview
International Friendlies in brief
International friendlies are matches between national teams that are not part of any tournament or qualifying competition. Most are played in FIFA's international windows, when clubs must release their players, and coaches use them to test players and tactics before competitive fixtures. The first official international, Scotland vs England in Glasgow in 1872, was itself a friendly. Friendlies count toward no title or qualifying table, but they do feed the FIFA men's world ranking, with the lowest weighting of any match type.
The 2026 season runs from 1 January 2026 to 19 November 2026.
