Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Wolves 65%, the draw 22%, West Brom 13%. It finished Wolves 1–0 West Brom.
Wolves' rating gap decides it — Wolves are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of Wolves' 65%. The draw at 22% is helped by a draw-heavy league.
Why Wolves at 65%?
Wolves sit 225 points higher on our strength rating — 1699 to 1474. Sides with a 200–300-point rating edge at home won 67.0% of 6,009 such games. The 300 most similar past games finished 70–18–12.
Why only 65%?
Championship home sides under-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to draws (26.9% vs 24.9% norm). Championship homes won 43.0% of 8,448 games vs 44.9% across all 100,474 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why is the draw only 22%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 19.6%. These teams' recent games average 3.1 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 25,162. Championship runs draw-heavy, adding 2.0 points.
What did we measure but not count?
Nolan Galves — regular in West Brom's recent line-ups — out injured. We can measure absences properly in only 192 comparable games so far — too few to put an honest number on it, so this stays a watch item at 0 points. Wolves on 3 days' rest, West Brom on 7. Once class is accounted for, rest gaps stopped mattering — across 43,922 measured games no rest advantage repeated.
