Match report
Beşiktaş overpower Marseille in four-goal romp at Besiktas Park
Beşiktaş thrashed Marseille 4-1 in their opening UEFA Europa League league-stage fixture, turning a tight first half into a one-sided second period at Besiktas Park. Ilhan Fakili put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute, finishing off a Junior Olaitan assist, only for Keyliane Abdallah to level for Marseille shortly before the half-hour mark after Himad Abdelli's pass.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The contest was level at 1-1 at the interval, but Beşiktaş surged clear early in the second half. Václav Černý restored their lead in the 56th minute, latching onto a pass from Orkun Kökçü, and Kökçü turned provider again three minutes later as Amir Murillo made it 3-1. Ernest Poku added a fourth in the 81st minute, converting another Olaitan assist to complete the rout.
Beşiktaş controlled possession at 54 percent and outshot their visitors 18 to 14, with seven efforts on target compared to Marseille's three, a reflection of the home side's growing dominance as the match wore on. Marseille, who arrived on the back of a poor run of results, offered little response after their early equaliser and were unable to build on their brief spell of parity.
Junior Olaitan supplied two assists, teeing up both the opening goal for Fakili and the late fourth for Poku, and finished with the highest rating on the pitch at 8.34.
Beşiktaş's seven shots on target to Marseille's three underlined how much more clinically the hosts translated their attacking pressure into clear chances.
Beşiktaş beat Marseille 4–1 (half-time 1–1).

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Beşiktaş 45%, the draw 26%, Marseille 29%. It finished Beşiktaş 4–1 Marseille.
Level sides, Beşiktaş's control of the ball swings it — Nothing separates them on our strength rating, and Beşiktaş's control of the ball plus UEFA Europa League home advantage give Beşiktaş the lean. The draw at 26% is trimmed by a league that produces few draws.
Why Beşiktaş in front?
Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 1788 to 1804. Sides this close won 43.0% of 16,006 home games (draw 26.7%, visitors 30.2%). Beşiktaş hold 6 more possession points (63 to 57 in recent games) — and between equals, control has been worth something. Between evenly-matched sides, home teams with this control edge won 47.8% of 5,222 games, vs 43.9% when styles were level. UEFA Europa League home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to draws (22.8% vs 24.9% norm). UEFA Europa League homes won 47.6% of 4,447 games vs 44.9% across all 100,266 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why only 45%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. Marseille sit -0.52 goals per game below chance-quality — cold streaks like this have bounced back. Visitors this cold went on to win 32.4% of 1,374 games, vs 29.2% for visitors finishing normally.
Why the draw at 26%?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 26.7%. These teams' recent games average 2.6 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,842. UEFA Europa League produces fewer draws than most, taking 2.1 points off. The goals environment adds 1.3 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Marseille have shed 83 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,762 such games vs 34.6% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. Beşiktaş are missing 3 regular starters — Junior Olaitan, Rıdvan Yılmaz, Leandro Trossard — about 24% of their usual starting-XI weight. A body count alone told us nothing. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
