Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Real Sociedad 35%, the draw 25%, Bournemouth 40%. It finished Real Sociedad 1–2 Bournemouth.
Bournemouth's rating edge outweighs Real Sociedad's home ground — Bournemouth are the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of Bournemouth's 40%. The draw at 25% is trimmed by a league that produces few draws.
Why Bournemouth at 40%?
Bournemouth sit 150 points higher on our strength rating — 1812 to 1961. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge on the road won 40.1% of 13,184 such games. The 300 most similar past games finished 32–28–40.
Why only 40%?
UEFA Europa League home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to draws (22.8% vs 24.9% norm). UEFA Europa League homes won 47.6% of 4,447 games vs 44.9% across all 100,266 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why the draw at 25%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 27.2%. These teams' recent games average 3.0 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 25,104. UEFA Europa League produces fewer draws than most, taking 2.1 points off.
What did we measure but not count?
Real Sociedad are 1 game into a new manager (Pellegrino Matarazzo), appointed 4 days ago. The famous new-manager bounce doesn't survive its receipt: sides with a new manager beat their rating by 0.9 points over 33,420 games — but sides on an equally bad run who kept their manager beat it by 2.4 over 31,777. Bournemouth are 2 games into a new manager (Marco Rose), appointed 9 days ago. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
