The deadlock broke in the 65th minute, and it was an unfortunate way for it to happen: Kreshnik Hajrizi turned the ball into his own net to hand Luzern a 1-0 lead. For 14 minutes the hosts held that advantage, though Sion had been the busier side, with 17 shots to Luzern's 9.
Sion drew level in the 79th minute. Josias Lukembila supplied the pass and Rilind Nivokazi finished to make it 1-1. The visitors had 52% of possession against 48% for Luzern, and Sion's expected goals figure of 3.15 against 0.72 reflected the weight of chances they created without converting more of them.
The point left Sion third on 23 points, with Luzern eighth on 13. Both sides play again on Saturday 7 November: Luzern host BSC Young Boys, while Sion travel to face FC Vaduz.
Rilind Nivokazi scored the equaliser in the 79th minute, finishing from Josias Lukembila's assist, and was the top-rated performer in the match with 8.2.
