McGinn strike gives Scotland win over Haiti at World Cup
Scotland began their World Cup Group Stage campaign with a 1-0 win over Haiti at Gillette Stadium, John McGinn's first-half goal proving enough to separate the sides.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
McGinn broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, turning the ball home to put Steve Clarke's side ahead, and that scoreline stood firm through to half-time and remained unchanged for the rest of the contest.
Haiti pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way past a well-organised Scotland defence, despite having territory of their own. Sebastien Migne's side finished with more possession but fewer clear openings, while Scotland's greater efficiency in front of goal ultimately told.
Lewis Ferguson and Grant Hanley both impressed for Scotland, each earning a rating of 7.7 as the visitors held firm defensively and made their first-half breakthrough count.
Scotland had 15 shots to Haiti's 9, underlining their greater threat in attack despite Haiti's edge in possession.
Scotland won 1–0 away against Haiti (half-time 0–1).
