Haaland double sends Norway past battling Senegal at MetLife Stadium
Norway held off a late Senegal fightback to win 3-2 in a World Cup Group Stage - 2 fixture at MetLife Stadium, with the sides level at half-time only in terms of intensity, Norway leading 1-0 at the break. The result continued Norway's improved recent form after a mixed run of results, while Senegal's defeat extended a difficult sequence heading into the tournament.

Marcus Pedersen broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, finishing in the 43rd minute to put the hosts ahead at the interval. Norway struck twice in quick succession after the restart as Erling Haaland converted a Martin Ødegaard assist in the 48th minute, before Ismaïla Sarr pulled one back for Senegal five minutes later with Sadio Mané supplying the assist.
Haaland restored the two-goal cushion in the 58th minute, turning home a Patrick Berg assist for his second of the match and Norway's third. Senegal continued to press forward, finishing with the higher share of possession at 58 percent and edging the shot count 16 to 13, and their persistence told deep into stoppage time when Sarr completed his brace in the 90+3rd minute, assisted by Nicolas Jackson, though it proved too late to force a leveller.
Haaland scored twice, in the 48th and 58th minutes, to finish with a match-high rating of 8.7 and decide the contest for Norway.
Despite having less of the ball, Norway were the more clinical side in front of goal, registering seven shots on target to Senegal's four.
