Late Lewandowski strike earns Chicago Fire a share of the spoils at Seattle
Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire shared four goals in a Major League Soccer Regular Season - 22 fixture at Lumen Field, the sides finishing level at 2-2 after Chicago twice came from behind. The result left Seattle, 20th in the table before kick-off, still searching for the win that would lift them away from the foot of the standings, while fifth-placed Chicago maintained their unbeaten recent run.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Dejan Joveljić put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute, converting from Sebastian Gomez's assist, but Maren Haile-Selassie levelled for Chicago in the 38th minute after being teed up by Robert Lewandowski, sending the teams in level at 1-1 at half-time. Joveljić struck again three minutes into the second half, assisted by Albert Rusnák, to restore Seattle's lead at 2-1.
Chicago pushed for an equaliser and got it in the 82nd minute when Lewandowski, set up by Puso Dithejane, fired home to make it 2-2, a scoreline that held to the final whistle. Despite having less of the ball, Chicago were far more clinical in front of goal, and referee Ismail Elfath booked one Seattle player during a contest short on discipline breakdowns.
Joveljić scored both of Seattle's goals and finished with a match-high rating of 8.9, proving the home side's most direct threat on the night.
Chicago managed ten shots on target to Seattle's three, a striking disparity given the hosts saw less of the ball but still found the net twice.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Seattle Sounders 42%, the draw 27%, Chicago Fire 31%. It finished Seattle Sounders 2–2 Chicago Fire.
Home ground outweighs Chicago Fire's rating edge — Chicago Fire are the stronger side on our strength rating, but Major League Soccer home advantage plus Chicago Fire's hot finishing due to cool give Seattle Sounders the lean. The draw at 27% is nudged down by the same factors that shape the win chances.
Why Seattle Sounders at 42%?
Home ground, against the rating. Chicago Fire sit 56 points higher on our strength rating — 1565 to 1621. Sides with a 50–100-point rating edge on the road won 32.9% of 10,549 such games. Major League Soccer home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to away wins (25.8% vs 30.2%). Major League Soccer homes won 49.4% of 5,116 games vs 44.9% across all 99,457 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly. Chicago Fire scored +0.36 goals per game beyond chance-quality lately — hot streaks like that have cooled off. Visitors running this hot went on to win 29.1% of 1,460 games, vs 28.9% for visitors finishing normally.
Why only 42%?
Because Chicago Fire are the stronger side on our strength rating. Chicago Fire hold 6 more possession points (50 to 44 in recent games) — and between equals, control has been worth something. Between evenly-matched sides, when the visitors held this control edge the home team's win rate fell to 40.2% across 5,551 games, from 44.0% when styles were level.
Why the draw at 27%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 28.3%. These teams' recent games average 3.1 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,900. The cool-off factor takes 2.0 points off the draw. The control factor adds 1.4 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Seattle Sounders sit -0.50 goals per game under chance-quality. For home sides we could not receipt a bounce-back — the measured cells sit inside each other's noise bands — so this is noted and scores 0. Seattle Sounders have shed 154 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,671 such games vs 34.5% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
