Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Toronto FC 37%, the draw 27%, Chicago Fire 36%. It finished Toronto FC 4–4 Chicago Fire.
Anyone's game — Chicago Fire are the stronger side on our strength rating, and Major League Soccer home advantage is not enough to separate them. The draw at 27% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why Toronto FC at 37%?
Home ground, against the rating. Chicago Fire sit 173 points higher on our strength rating — 1448 to 1621. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge on the road won 40.1% of 13,132 such games. Major League Soccer home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to away wins (25.8% vs 30.2%). Major League Soccer homes won 49.4% of 5,132 games vs 44.9% across all 99,727 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why only 37%?
Because Chicago Fire are the stronger side on our strength rating. The rest is the draw at 27% and Chicago Fire at 36%.
Why the draw at 27%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 27.2%. These teams' recent games average 2.9 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,965.
What did we measure but not count?
Chicago Fire average 6 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 173 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. Chicago Fire scored +0.35 goals per game beyond chance-quality lately — hot streaks like that have cooled off. Measured across 2,827 games at this rating gap, hot-finishing sides won 42.1% vs 42.9% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it scores 0 until the receipt clears its evidence bar. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
