Profile
Antoine Griezmann is a French forward who connects midfield and attack through his movement. He drops into gaps to give team-mates an extra passing option, then arrives in the penalty area as defenders turn their attention elsewhere. His work without the ball matters too: blocking passing routes and tracking back help his team recover possession.
Born in Mâcon on 21 March 1991, he left France for Real Sociedad as a teenager. His first-team breakthrough came in 2009, and he helped the Basque club win the second division in 2009/10. That route gave him his senior grounding in Spanish football.
He joined Atlético Madrid in 2014. One defining night came in the 2018 Europa League final against Marseille: he scored both sides of half-time in a 3–0 victory, turning a mistake into the opening goal and finishing a flowing move for the second.
A move to Barcelona followed in July 2019, before he returned to Atlético in 2021. In January 2024, his 174th Atlético goal took him past Luis Aragonés as the club’s record scorer. The milestone reflected his contribution across two separate spells in Madrid.
For France, six goals at Euro 2016 brought the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament award, although the hosts lost the final to Portugal. He then helped France win the 2018 World Cup, scoring in the final against Croatia and receiving the match’s individual award.
His adaptability was clear at the 2022 World Cup, when Didier Deschamps used him in midfield. He supplied both France goals against England in the quarter-final, and the team reached another final before losing to Argentina. Griezmann announced his international retirement in September 2024.
He moved to Orlando City in July 2026, opening a new chapter beyond European club football. On 22 July he scored on his MLS debut in a 4–0 win at San Jose Earthquakes.
Antoine Griezmann currently plays for Orlando City SC as a forward. He has represented France internationally.
