Profile
Kylian Mbappé is a French forward whose threat begins before he receives the ball. His speed and timing allow him to get behind defenders, while changes of pace with the ball help him create room to shoot or cross.
Born on 20 December 1998, he developed at AS Bondy and Clairefontaine before joining Monaco’s academy in 2013. His breakthrough came in 2016/17, when he helped Monaco win Ligue 1 and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
At Paris Saint-Germain, which he joined in 2017, that early promise became sustained scoring success. Over seven seasons he won six league titles and scored 256 goals in all competitions, leaving in 2024 as the club’s record scorer.
With France, he won the 2018 World Cup at 19 and scored in the final against Croatia. Four years later, his hat-trick in the final against Argentina helped France force a penalty shootout, which they lost. His eight goals earned the 2022 Golden Boot.
He joined Real Madrid in July 2024. In his first season, 2024/25, he scored 31 LaLiga goals, winning both the Spanish league’s scoring title and the European Golden Shoe.
At the 2026 World Cup, ten goals brought a second Golden Boot and took his total across three tournaments to 22, setting a new men’s World Cup scoring record.
He uses changes of speed to unsettle defenders. FIFA’s technical analysis shows him slowing down to draw an opponent closer, then accelerating into the space behind. UEFA highlighted another version of that skill in his February 2025 hat-trick against Manchester City: a run timed to the passer’s preparation, followed later by a curved run to stay onside. These movements help him reach dangerous positions during patient possession as well as on the counterattack.
Kylian Mbappé currently plays for Real Madrid as a striker. He has represented France internationally.
