Profile
Marco Grüll is an Austrian forward who can move between attacking jobs. He has played from the left and across the front line, while Bremen has also used him beside a striker. That range changes the route to goal: he can run beyond a defence, arrive for a finish or find the teammate making the decisive run.
His route to Germany began in Austria's regional game. After TSV St. Johann and SV Ried, he joined Rapid Vienna in summer 2021. Rapid marked his 100th competitive appearance in August 2023, the night he scored a winner against Fiorentina in a European tie. He had built that place through league, cup and continental games, rather than one isolated breakout.
At Rapid, Grüll became a regular attacking reference point and twice won the club's fan voted player of the season award, for 2021/22 and 2023/24. After a productive 2023/24 league season, he was selected for Austria's Euro 2024 squad. Austria reached the last 16, but Grüll did not play at the tournament.
Grüll moved from Rapid to Bremen in summer 2024. His first German Bundesliga goal came in an October win at Wolfsburg. Earlier chances had gone unfinished, yet he kept reaching shooting positions. His coach highlighted those repeated runs: movement gave Bremen chances before the eventual goal.
He has described himself as able to play across the attack, and later matches bore that out. Against Union Berlin in October 2025, he cut in from the right of the box and scored the only goal with his left foot. Against Leipzig in September 2026, a corner supplied Niclas Füllkrug's header. He can finish an attacking move or provide its final delivery.
That mix appeared again against Augsburg on 19 September 2026. With Bremen two goals behind, Grüll cut inside to score, contested a loose ball before the equaliser, then pulled a pass back for the stoppage time winner. Those actions show how his direct running, persistence and choice of pass can serve the same attack.
Marco Grüll currently plays for Werder Bremen as a forward. He has represented Austria internationally.
