Oumar Solet

Oumar Solet is a French centre-back who can advance an attack before making a pass. He carries the ball out of defence, inviting a challenge and opening a route upfield. In an April 2026 Udinese interview, he explained that his dribbles are meant to help his side play out, despite the risk of losing possession there.

His route to senior football ran through Lyon, which he joined in 2018 after earlier development in France. He made his first-team debut in the 2018/19 season. Udinese later described his defensive game as combining physical strength, agility and technique.

Solet also played for France's youth teams. He started all four of France's matches at the 2019 European Under-19 Championship, including the semi-final against Spain. France lost that match on penalties after a goalless draw.

In summer 2020 he moved to Salzburg, where he became a regular and gained Champions League experience. The club won the Austrian league in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and the Austrian Cup in 2021 and 2022 during his time there.

Udinese announced his signing in October 2024 but said he would join in January 2025. In Italy, his role combined central defending with licence to move forward from the back, whether starting on the left or right of the defence.

A February 2026 match against Sassuolo offered a sharp example. Solet dribbled past defenders and scored Udinese's opener with his right foot, although his team lost 2-1. The move showed how a defender's carry can lead directly to a chance.

In January 2026 he received the AIC and USSI award for Udinese's best player of 2024/25. He was later among ten defenders shortlisted for the 2025/26 AIC Serie A Top 11 but was not selected for the final side. In April, Solet pointed to box defending and leadership as parts of his game he had worked to improve.
