Profile
Ousmane Dembélé is a French forward whose use of both feet makes him difficult to direct away from danger. He can dribble and finish on either side, while his speed and changes of pace leave defenders little time to adjust. His development has also taken him from the wing into a mobile central role.
Born in Vernon on 15 May 1997, he played youth football in Évreux before joining Rennes in 2010. His breakthrough came in the 2015/16 season, when he made his professional debut and won the French league’s young-player award.
He moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2016 and won the German Cup in 2017. Barcelona signed him that summer. Across his time in Spain, he won league titles in 2018, 2019 and 2023, as well as the Copa del Rey in 2018 and 2021.
After joining Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023, Dembélé developed a different way of unsettling a defence under Luis Enrique. UEFA’s analysis of the April 2025 win at Arsenal showed him leaving the centre-backs to receive in midfield. That movement added a passing option and forced opponents to decide who should follow him as Paris exchanged positions around the ball.
His contribution extended to winning it back. UEFA’s observers highlighted his pressing from the front during Paris’s first Champions League triumph in 2025. He scored eight goals in that campaign, including away winners against Liverpool and Arsenal, and received the competition’s Player of the Season award. In September 2025, he won the men’s Ballon d’Or.
Paris retained the Champions League on 30 May 2026. Dembélé’s penalty brought them level against Arsenal in the final, which finished 1–1 after extra time before Paris won the shootout 4–3.
With France, he was part of the 2018 World Cup-winning squad and started the 2022 final against Argentina. At the 2026 tournament, he scored a first-half hat-trick in a 4–1 group-stage win over Norway, finishing once with his right foot and twice with his left. France went on to finish fourth.
Ousmane Dembélé currently plays for Paris Saint Germain as a striker. He has represented France internationally.
