Nathan De Cat

Nathan De Cat is a Belgian midfielder whose early work was built around receiving and distributing the ball from deeper positions. Anderlecht's academy account singled out his passing, running and ability to set the tempo; Bundesliga's later profile describes a player who can also carry possession past a marker. The combination matters: he can help a side move out of midfield without treating every forward pass as a gamble.

He began at KV Mechelen before joining Anderlecht's academy at ten. In October 2023, the club announced his first professional contract and described him as part of its 2008 generation. He progressed through RSCA Futures, gaining senior-league experience there before breaking into Anderlecht's first team. That route gave him minutes against adults before his more visible Belgian top-flight breakthrough.

His first-team debut came from the bench against Fenerbahçe in the Europa League on 20 February 2025. UEFA's match report records his 82nd-minute entry, a useful distinction from merely being named in the squad. Anderlecht later traced another step to 1 May, when he scored against Antwerp after coming on. These were early contributions rather than evidence that he had already become a regular starter.

The change came in 2025/26. Anderlecht started him against Westerlo on 27 July 2025, the league opener, and its retrospective credits him with nine ball recoveries in that match. His defensive work could restart attacks; as his role moved higher, his stride, close control and passing let him connect midfield with forwards. Those are different tasks, and his appeal lay in being able to link them rather than fitting one narrow midfield label.

In January 2026, De Cat received the Belgian Golden Boot gala's young-player award, an individual honour rather than a team title. Anderlecht supporters then voted him the club's first-team Player of the Season in June. He also received his first senior Belgium call-up in March 2026, a separate milestone from those club awards.

De Cat moved from Anderlecht to Hoffenheim in July 2026. In an August German Cup match at Erzgebirge Aue, the Bundesliga live report describes him advancing into the box and setting up Patrick Wimmer's opening goal. It is a concrete example of how a midfielder known for deeper play could contribute at the other end.
