Profile
Neymar is a Brazilian forward who can turn a one-on-one duel into a passing move. His close control and feints draw defenders towards the ball, while quick exchanges let him move beyond them. The combination makes him both a chance creator and a finisher.
Born on 5 February 1992, he joined Santos’s youth system in 2003 and reached the first team in 2009. The Copa do Brasil followed in 2010, then the Copa Libertadores in 2011. He scored in the final as Santos became South American champions for the first time since 1963.
Barcelona signed him in 2013. Alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, he helped win the league, Copa del Rey and Champions League in 2014/15. Neymar scored the final goal in the 3–1 European final victory over Juventus and shared the competition’s scoring lead with ten goals.
He moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and helped them reach their first Champions League final in 2020, losing to Bayern Munich. After joining Al-Hilal in August 2023, he returned to Santos in January 2025, bringing his club journey back to the place where he had developed.
For Brazil, he scored on his senior debut against the United States in August 2010 and helped win the 2013 Confederations Cup. At Rio 2016 he converted the decisive shootout penalty against Germany, securing Brazil’s first Olympic gold in men’s football.
After Brazil’s round-of-16 defeat by Norway in July 2026, Neymar announced his retirement from the national team.
His goal against Croatia in the 2022 quarter-final shows how his individual skill works through combinations. Receiving with his back to goal, he turned and exchanged passes with Rodrygo, then used a shooting feint before another exchange with Lucas Paquetá. Continuing his run through the defence, he beat the goalkeeper and scored. Brazil eventually lost on penalties, but the move captures Neymar’s ability to combine improvisation with teammates’ movement.
Neymar currently plays for Santos as a forward. He has represented Brazil internationally.
