Overview

West Brom in brief

Founded in 1878 as West Bromwich Strollers by workers at George Salter's Spring Works, West Bromwich Albion took their present name in 1880 and have played at The Hawthorns since 1900. At 551 feet above sea level, it is the highest of the 92 Premier League and Football League grounds. Known as West Brom, the Baggies or the Throstles, the club play in navy blue and white stripes.

Albion were among the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888. They were champions of England in 1919-20 and have won the FA Cup five times, in 1888, 1892, 1931, 1954 and 1968, as well as the League Cup in 1966. The 1931 side won the FA Cup and promotion from the Second Division in the same season, a double no other club has achieved. Albion have also won the second tier three times and the Charity Shield in 1920 and, shared, in 1954.
