Overview

Cordoba in brief

Cordoba CF were founded on 6 August 1954, after the debt-ridden Real Club Deportivo Cordoba was dissolved; the new club took the third-tier place of CD San Alvaro. The city's football lineage goes back further, to Racing clubs of 1929 and 1934. The green and white stripes date from 1944, and the nickname Los Califas refers to the Caliphate of Cordoba. Home since 1993 has been the Nuevo Arcangel, renamed Estadio Bahrain Victorious Nuevo Arcangel de Cordoba under a sponsorship deal in 2025.

Cordoba reached La Liga for the first time by winning Segunda Division in 1961-62 and spent most of the 1960s in the top flight, finishing fifth in 1964-65, their best position. Their ninth and most recent top-flight season came in 2014-15, after a play-off win over Las Palmas ended a 42-year absence. The club also topped their Segunda Division B group in 1994-95 and 1996-97. Relegated to the third tier in 2019, they returned to Segunda through the play-offs in 2024, beating Barcelona Atletic in the final.
