Overview

AD Ceuta FC in brief

AD Ceuta FC represent Ceuta, the Spanish autonomous city on the North African coast bordering Morocco, and are nicknamed the Caballas (the Mackerels). The club was founded on 9 July 1956 as Club Atletico de Ceuta, when Sociedad Deportiva Ceuta merged with Atletico Tetuan. Home is the municipal Estadio Alfonso Murube, opened in its present form in 1997 and named after a former Ceuta Sport player.

As Atletico de Ceuta the club finished second in its Segunda Division group in 1960-61 and lost the promotion play-off to Elche, before long spells in the lower and regional divisions. In 2012 a planned merger with the separate, heavily indebted AD Ceuta fell through because of that club's debts. Atletico de Ceuta carried on as the same club, took on AD Ceuta's staff, players, colours and crest, and in 2013 adopted the name AD Ceuta FC.
