Overview

SpVgg Greuther Fürth in brief

Greuther Furth began on 23 September 1903 as the football section of the gymnastics club TV 1860 Furth, broke away in 1906 and played as SpVgg Furth until 1 July 1996, when the football department of TSV Vestenbergsgreuth joined and the present name was adopted. The cloverleaf on the city's coat of arms gives the club its white and green colours and the nickname Kleeblatt. The Ronhof has been home since 1910; it was the Playmobil-Stadion from 1997 and Trolli Arena from 2010, and has carried its present name since 2016.

As SpVgg Furth the club were German champions three times, in 1914, 1926 and 1929. The modern club won the 2. Bundesliga in 2011-12 to reach the Bundesliga for the first time, but in 2012-13 became the first team to complete a Bundesliga season without a home win and went straight down. A second promotion, as runners-up in 2021, again lasted one season. In 2026 they kept their 2. Bundesliga place by beating Rot-Weiss Essen 2-1 on aggregate in the relegation play-off.
