Overview

Modena in brief

Modena Football Club was formed on 5 April 1912 by the merger of two local clubs, Audax and the Associazione Studentesca del Calcio. The team wear yellow and blue and are nicknamed I Canarini, the Canaries. Their stadium opened in 1936 and in 1957 was renamed after Alberto Braglia, the Modena gymnast who won three Olympic gold medals. After bankruptcy in November 2017 the club was refounded in 2018 and counts the history since 1912 as its own.

Modena have played 13 Serie A seasons, the last in 2003-04, and their best finish was third in 1946-47, behind Torino and Juventus. In 1937-38 they finished level on points with Novara and Alessandria on top of Serie B and went up after a play-off; they won Serie B outright in 1942-43 and took the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1981 and 1982, a record for the competition. After the 2017 collapse Modena restarted in Serie D, were readmitted to Serie C in 2019 and, under Attilio Tesser, won their group in 2022 before adding a second Supercoppa di Serie C.
