Overview

Vicenza Virtus in brief

Vicenza were founded on 9 March 1902 by Tito Buy, head of the city's Liceo Lioy, and the physical education teacher Antonio Libero Scarpa. The club took the Lanerossi name in 1953 after the textile company bought it, became Vicenza Calcio in 1989 and L.R. Vicenza in 2021. The white and red colours match the city's emblem. Home is the Stadio Romeo Menti, opened in 1935 and named in 1949 after the Vicenza-born former player who died in the Superga air disaster.

Promoted as Serie B champions in 1977, Lanerossi Vicenza finished second to Juventus in Serie A in 1977-78, with Paolo Rossi top scorer on 24 goals. Under Francesco Guidolin the club won the Coppa Italia in 1996-97 and reached the Cup Winners' Cup semi-finals, losing to Chelsea. Other honours include Serie B titles in 1954-55 and 1999-2000, Serie C groups in 2019-20 and 2025-26, and the Coppa Italia Serie C in 1981-82 and 2022-23.
