Overview

RED Star FC 93 in brief

Red Star were founded in a Paris cafe on 21 February 1897 as Red Star Club Francais by Jules Rimet, who later became president of FIFA, with a group that included his brother Modeste and Ernest Weber. The club has been based in Saint-Ouen, just north of Paris, since 1909, and its home is the Stade Bauer, near the Saint-Ouen flea market, though safety problems there forced spells at other grounds. The club first played in navy blue and white and took on green and white in the years after its 1926 merger with Olympique de Paris.

Red Star won the Coupe de France three years running, in 1921, 1922 and 1923, and again in 1928 and 1942. They turned professional in 1932, were founding members of the national first division and won the first second-division title in 1933-34, adding another in 1938-39. Their last top-flight season was 1974-75. Bankruptcy in 1978 and further financial failures in the early 2000s sent them down the pyramid, before Championnat National titles in 2015, 2018 and 2024 brought them back to Ligue 2.
