Overview

Rodez in brief

Rodez Aveyron Football trace their origins to 1929, when the multi-sports club Stade Ruthenois was founded in Rodez, in the Aveyron department of southern France. The football section began in 1931 and took the name Rodez Aveyron Football in 1993, which gives the club its nickname, Le RAF. Playing in red and yellow, the team are also called Les Sang et Or, the Blood and Golds. Home matches are played at the Stade Paul-Lignon, in the centre of Rodez.

Rodez first reached the second division in 1988, went straight back down, then returned in 1990 and stayed until 1993. Their best Coupe de France run came in 1991, when they knocked out Metz and Sochaux before losing a semi-final 4-1 to Marseille. After years in the lower divisions, they won the Championnat National in 2018-19, returning to Ligue 2 after 26 years away. They have since twice reached the promotion play-offs, finishing fourth in 2023-24 and fifth in 2025-26.
