Overview

Dijon in brief

Dijon Football Cote-d'Or, known as DFCO, were formed in 1998 when two clubs from the Burgundy city, the Cercle Laique Dijonnais and Dijon FC, merged after years as rivals. The Cercle's roots go back to 1903, with a football section from 1913. Dijon play mainly in red and are known as Les Rouges. Their home is the Stade Gaston-Gerard, opened in 1934 as the Parc des Sports and renamed in 1969 after the former mayor who drove its construction.

Dijon reached the Coupe de France semi-finals in 2004 under Rudi Garcia and first played in Ligue 1 in 2011-12, going down on the final day. They returned in 2016 and spent five seasons in the top flight before relegation in 2021, followed by a drop to the Championnat National in 2023. In May 2026 they won the National title, the club's first at that level, with a 2-1 win at Le Puy, sealing a return to Ligue 2 after three years away.
