Overview

New England Revolution in brief

The New England Revolution were founded in 1995 as one of Major League Soccer's ten charter clubs, with Robert Kraft, owner of the NFL's New England Patriots, as founding investor-operator. The name recalls the region's part in the American Revolution, the team is widely known as the Revs, and it has traditionally worn navy at home. After playing at Foxboro Stadium from 1996 to 2001, the club moved in 2002 to the new Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, home of the Patriots.

Between 2002 and 2014 New England lost five MLS Cup finals: to LA Galaxy in 2002, 1-0 after extra time at Gillette Stadium, and again in 2005 and 2014, and to Houston in 2006 and 2007. The first major trophy was the 2007 U.S. Open Cup, followed by the North American SuperLiga in 2008. In 2021, under Bruce Arena, the Revs won the Supporters' Shield with 73 points, then an MLS record, and Carles Gil was named league MVP.
